Jensen Drilling Company background
John Jensen, Principal
and Inventor
In 1966, a need arose
for thousands of feet for horizontal drains in large slide areas
along the newly constructed freeways throughout the United States
of America. The existing drilling equipment was slow and made the
cost-per-foot-drilled expensive.
At Jensen Drilling,
we developed drilling equipment on crawler tractors so that drilling
could be accomplished in rough terrain and where access was nearly
impossible. This equipment could use longer lengths of drill pipe
making it 5 times faster than the old method, thus reducing the
cost per foot. The cost per foot price reduction made many more
projects feasible.
The crisis at Three
Mile Island Nuclear Plant created the need for a computerized drilling
rig. We designed and manufactured the necessary equipment to remove
the reactor cores and stainless plate underlying the reactor.
In 2001, my grandson,
Randy Coryell, and I designed (and are presently manufacturing)
the JCA Circle Burning Attachment
used for cutting circular holes in steel plate, pipe, etc. You get
a perfect fit every time instead of struggling to correct a free-hand
effort.
But,
business is business and when weekends come it's time to go fishing!
We use downriggers
on the boat which has a large weight on the cable. A release is
fastened to the weight, the fishing lure, and bait attached to the
fish pole line are placed in the release and lowered down to the
fishing depth desired. When a fish has struck, the release lets
go and you reel the fish in. Now the fun begins.
It is necessary to
reel up the downrigger weight (80 to 100 ft sometimes) every time
in order to attach the lure and bait to the
release. I thought to myself, "There has got to be a better
way using downriggers for fishing!"
After making and trying
many different prototypes of the Dolfin
Carriers we finally came up with the perfect product.
The landing plate has
a fin which keeps it in the right position when fish have struck
and the Dolfin Carrier
descends down to it for a landing. Also, the "Dolfin
Carrier" is engineered so that the flow of
water under the tail section is captured tipping the Dolfin
Carrier forward and down, creating a slight friction
on the downrigger cable, thus making its descent slower. In addition
the Dolfin Carrier
has a fin (part of the tail) which keeps it in line with the landing
plate.
The Dolfin
Carrier makes downrigger fishing fun and easy and
that's what we like. |
